Fun Facts About Sloths

A sloth can take a whole minute just to climb about two metres, roughly the height of a doorway.

Moving slowly saves energy, sloths eat mostly leaves, which don't give them much fuel to burn.

Sloths are surprisingly good swimmers, even though they're famously slow on land.

They only travel around 40 metres a day, slower than almost any other mammal.

They sleep, eat, and even give birth while hanging upside down.

Algae actually grows on their fur because they move so little, giving them a greenish tinge that helps them hide from predators in the trees.
